I was born on Staten Island, raised in Portland, Oregon, and have now lived in Los Angeles for 49 years. I attended several art schools and universities, and finished up with a BFA from what is currently known as The California College of Art, and an MFA in Fiber Art from UCLA. I spent numerous years as a public school art educator.

My proudest moment as an artist was marching at a 2000 anti-police brutality march in Down Town Los Angeles, along with hundreds of people carrying this sign, which I designed. The original photograph was of a student of mine, Jose, taken in Boyle Heights.
